hair color?
jared huh

I have an appointment tomorrow to cut and color my hair.  I'm very excited, a haircut is overdue.  But I'm a little nervous about the color, because I'm not sure what I want.

I decided it was time to color my hair again as part of me needing a style.   So I started thinking I wanted my hair to be copper to fit in with the steampunk idea.  Then I became concerned that it would clash with my complexion.  I started thinking about auburn - but then realized that anything in the red family of hair colors would mean more careful selection of what colors I wear (the one advantage of mousy brown is it matches everything).  I switched to going a dark chocolate brown, but that's not so exciting.  Maybe with chunky blonde highlights, but the appointment isn't scheduled for two color things.  Then I thought about the fact that every time I've ever given a stylist the option to color my hair anything they've made me blonde, so maybe I should do that.  But I've been blonde, what I've always wanted to be was red.  And thus the snake swallows its own tail.

Then I thought "Wait, I have the internets.  I know many stylish people on LJ, or at least, they all have an opinion.  Why not ask them?"  So that's what I'm doing.

Here is a very blurry picture of me from yesterday so you can see my current hair color, taken with natural light.

Please tell me internets - what should I do?

Poll #1478050 hair color?

What color should I get my hair dyed tomorrow?

Bronze was your first instinct, stick with that
Mmm, auburn is pretty
Dark brown would go with everything, and maybe your stylist can fit highlights in
Blondes have more fun
I don't think you've given enough consideration to blue

I think that's completely fair. I blame it on the student matinee, I was typing as 600 middle school students were filing into the theatre.

Be bold!!! Remember it's only hair. You can change it again in a snap. :)

I think your coloring would make an auburn POP.

That's what I keep reminding myself, this isn't a huge commitment it's just hair.

My boyfriend mentioned auburn too, I will probably explain some of this to my stylist and then let her make the call.

Do you watch Castle? Alexis, the daughter has the same colored complexion and her hair is a reddish gold..I think that would look great :):)

I do watch Castle, if I could pull it off I would love that color hair. Maybe I can bring a photo and see if my stylist can pull it off.

Looking pretty! (You camwhore, you.)

Heh thanks. There will probably be a few more pictures coming too, one to reveal whatever hair color I end up with and one my halloween costume if it all works out.

Auburn, it would look awesome with your complextion. I think blonde would wash you out.

Also...if you don't like it you can change it in a month!

Yeah, I'm not so certain why stylists have always wanted to do blonde, it just doesn't feel like me.

I need to remember that this isn't a forever decision, it could be a less than a weekend decision if I really dislike it. So it's okay to go a little crazy.

Auburn seems to be winning. I mostly got scared of color matching after I pulled my one red sweater out of the closet yesterday, but overall I don't think it wouldn't be much of an issue.

I'm down with dark brown!

Noted! I've done that once before actually, it tends to look rather dramatic on me.

Are you going to Wendy? She does some wicked fun high/lowlights when given leave, Amy's hair has like black and blonde in it. I wish I could do that but my base color isn't tame enough I think. I say go bold! I love that nobody wants you do do blonde though, that's funny.

I am going to Wendy. I really want to change the base color and get highlights but I only came up with that yesterday and didn't make the appointment for that much time. I'm hoping she might be able to fit it in anyway.

I am astonished that no one picked blonde.

I like dark chocolate brown. Then you can do punk color low-lights. =D

(this, of course, is *not at all* influenced by my long-standing desire to dye my hair navy)

Do it! If you're worried about it, just dye the last inch navy, so that you can tuck it into a bun or chop it off if you need normal-colored hair in a hurry.

I'd like to get blue highlights myself, but I need to find a professional. When I did it myself it felt like straw and faded from cobalt to light denim every 2-3 weeks.

I think your hair would look good navy, though that might be a difficult color to achieve.

I actually know a girl that has auburn hair and pale clear skin. She might be a bit pinker than you, but not by much. Anyway, I've always liked her coloration. Which sounds weird, but, um, I think you'll get my point.

I do get the point. I think I'm leaning towards auburn as the base color, and I will have to tell my stylist about this poll, she'll likely get a kick out of it.

You realize we are going to need pics of the new color, right? :)
