Yesterday, I turned 40.

I laughed a lot, and cried a little.

I wore my hair in braided pigtails, despite the dozen or so grey hairs visible along the center part.

I read some good words, and ate some good food.

I talked with family and friends.

I hiked in the woods.

I did all of this with J, who I love and can't imagine my life without.  Apparently he feels the same because...

I also got engaged.

That is some birthday. Congratulations.

Thanks. J has already commented that next year will likely not live up to this level of spectacular.

Happy Birthday! And-- Congratulations!

happy birthday and congrats :-)

Aaaaaaah congratulations I MET HIM JUST IN TIME.

I know, right? As I was posting this it occurred to me that you could vouch he was real.

Congratulations! I can't think of a better way to spend your 40th.

Right? Suddenly 40 really feels like the start of something (instead of just a 'life begins at 40' slogan).

Thanks so much!

I have 40 looming later this year, but nothing nearly as exciting planned. I'm not even having a party because I know that very few people will bother showing up, will just be depressing. That's what happened at my husband's but at least then we'd only just gone to NZ so a small pool of friends was understandable. I'm thinking family day at a theme park instead - not quite as exciting as yours, but still thrilling!

I kept thinking about what I thought turning 40 should be then said screw it, and planned the day I wanted: sleep in a bit, J makes popovers for breakfast, go for a hike, go out for sushi dinner. No big party or other observances. Little did I know that J had planned to make it way more memorable. So I say pick the day you want to have, everything else will work itself out.

Al wants to do the party; I'd rather do Thorpe Park. It's his birthday two days after mine, so that always impacts on things as well. Usually I get the day off but in the absence of someone who can look after the children all day, that would involve my being alone all day which really doesn't appeal, whereas all of us screaming our heads off on rollercoasters? Awesome! It's possible Al might plan something, but he's not really the surprise me type, what with us both being Virgos.

AWESOME!!! Congratulations!

Happy Belated Birthday and Congratulations!!!!!

Congratulations!! Wonderful news! And happy birthday!!

Awwwww. That was such a cute way to say all that. :) I didn't see the surprise ending coming even though it was right there in front of me. Congrats.

I didn't see the surprise coming either, which is part of why I wrote it this way. Thanks!

I am so happy for you! And I don't even know J! But yay! What a great way to celebrate a milestone!

I'm late to the party, but congratulations!!!
